Food Shopping when you are at The Walnut Tree

On your arrival at The Walnut Tree villa, you will find your Complimentary Welcome Pack awaiting you.  This includes tea, coffee, sugar, local milk, bottled water, local wine and beer as well as some homemade jam, locally made bread and butter.

You will soon want to stock up the fridge and store cupboard and these are the shops that we recommend:

LOCALLY

In Karavomilos:
Eugene and Maria’s combined Supermarket and Garden Centre (Gaia)

Spathis Bakery (there are branches of the bakery – all irresistable – in Sami, Aghia Efimia and several in Argostoli)

In Sami

Bakeries – there are four each with its own speciality (ice cream, birthday cakes, delicious bread, beautiful Greek baklava, etc)

Supermarkets – there are three in town (Demoulis, Sami Supermarket and the ‘new’ one which is excellent and very competitive prices).  Most of them stock local milk, yoghurt and cheese as well as vegetables and meat.

Butchers – there are three.  Our favourite is George where you can buy local meat, eggs, and wine.  They all have their specialities and predominantly their meat is locally produced.  The one next to the paper shop has brilliant large sausages perfect for BBQs.

Greengrocer – near the paper shop.

Newspaper Shop

Stationery Shop

ATMs/Post Office/Travel Agents/Tourist Information

SUPERMARKETS AND LOCAL PRODUCE MARKETS IN ARGOSTOLI

Carrefoure

Lidl

A and B

and others

can be found near Argostoli, the capital of Kefalona not far from the airport.

NB We are finding shopping in Sami increasingly more competitive than in the past.  There are some things that it is still worth buying in bulk from the large supermarkets – but with the time it takes and cost of the drive to Argostoli ….. it is only cost effective if you are that side of the island.
